We get far fewer Gliding slots then flying slots, due to each slot can only be filled by 3 cadets and we get only 2 of these slots per year. However each time you get to go gliding you get 3 launches, this will gain you a Gliding Induction Course of which there are 3 levels, lasting around 30 minutes. There is also a chance to go on a Gliding Scholarship which is a 9 day course which ends in you getting either your Blue Wings (for just completing the course), Silver Wings (for flying solo) or Gold Wings (where you get to return as a staff cadet). Recently Sergeant Holbrook gained his Silver Wings and had this to say:

"Fantastic week, the other people on the course were great fun to be around, flew solo twice at the end!"

The ATC has the largest glider fleet in the UK flying both the Viking glider and the self-launching Vigilant glider. The nearest squadron that provides the Viking is 614 Squadron based at MoD Wethersfield, only 10 minutes up the road so sometimes get slots that other squadrons don't fill.
