Civilian Instructors (CI's)

CI's are non-uniformed members of staff who help run lectures and take on some responsibilities of the squadron. As a CI you can give as much or as little time as you can manage and you do not need any formal qualifications. You will have the opportunity to develop your leadership skills and if you wish take qualifications in mountain leadership, First Aid and NVQs that may also be useful to you.

Uniformed Staff

To become an Adult Sergeant in the ATC you generally first join as a CI and after a period of time you will receive numerous interviews then go into uniform. Your squadron duties include becoming involved in literally every aspect of ATC activity from parade nights to adventure training and sports to radio communications, shooting, Duke of Edinburgh's Awards, and the academic syllabus.  Along the way you will help young people aged 13-20 to learn and to become good citizens but you will also develop your own leadership skills and have the opportunity to pick up qualifications. You may be entitled to 28 days pay.

Being a Commissioned Officer has much the same benifits and responsibilities as being an Adult NCO but with more of an emphasis on the orginising of the squadron. The process takes a bit longer than that of the Adult NCO but you have the chance to go up the chain and may even find yourself in charge of the wing!
