158 Squadron is a part of the Air Cadet Organization (ACO), which comprises of the ATC and the RAF Section of the Combined Cadet Force (CCF). The organization is a voluntary, military, uniformed youth organization, sponsored by the Royal Air Force, which has nearly 60,000 members including cadets aged 13-20, volunteer staff and civilian committee members.

The Corps provides both cadets and staff with exciting opportunities such as flying, gliding, shooting, adventure training, annual camps and the experience of having a uniform and taking part in military disciplines such as drill.

The ATC aims to:

  • Promote and encourage a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force among young people
  • Provide training which will be useful in the Services and civilian life
  • Encourage the spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship

All cadets also have the opportunity to gain nationally recognized qualifications for their time spent in the Corps. Our academic syllabus allows cadets to take examinations that will result in the BTEC National Award in Aviation Studies. Many other qualifications such as BTEC National Diploma in Public Services, Flying and Gliding Scholarships (leading onto license qualifications), Young First Aider and Radio Communications. All can be earned during time served through the training of the Air Training Corps.
